About Me

Well, I’m a 23 year old from the south east of England, Hastings to be more precise, a town whose biggest claims to fame are; “The Birth Place Of Television” after John Logie Baird returned from a failed jam making venture in the Caribbean, he went on to invent the television in Hastings, now that’s a career change. Then of course there’s the Battle of Hastings in 1066, when the Normans decisively conquered England killing King Harold II. Well, That’s already more history than I ever intended to write in this blog, or in fact anywhere, ever, so lets move on…

I’m engaged to my gorgeous fiance Amy. We’ve been together for just over 4 years now, and she’s stuck by my side and supported me during all my stressful entrepeneurial shenanigans, not to mention keeping me on track and sensible in general. She’s in the final stages of completing a grueling 3 years Nurse training, she’ll then go on to work as  an operating theatre practitioner. 

The last couple of years of my life have been engulfed by the all consuming black hole that was running my own business. Well, I use the term ‘running’ loosely, I suppose, ‘trying to make it work’ would be a more apt description. The initial concept for the business was to create custom built computers for music production, this idea was born from a natural marriage of my interests; Making music , and computers. I kind of wish I’d given it more thought on reflection, but hey, I was young, ambitious and a little naive, and on top of that a college drop-out doing a job I hated, an interesting combination of factors, but at the time I thought it was the perfect solution. After altering the business model to a music technology solutions company, i still couldn’t acheive any significant level of success, I was coming to the realisation that it just wasn’t going to take off as planned. Although, the whole process had left me with a different view of living, working and everything in between.

So there I was, left with a blank canvas of a life. What to do with it. Maybe that’s a tad dramatic. But anyway…….

One day I got thinking about how I regretted not making more of my education, you know the old chestnut of ‘if only I knew then what I know now’ kind of thinking. Well my instant gut reaction was, ‘I’d do a graphic design course’, and there it was, clear as day, it all made sense. Why not I thought,  I’m always preaching to people that if they really want to do something in life, they should just go for it. So Graphic Designer it is then. When I step back and look at it all, it really makes sense, it’s something I can definitely see myself doing as a career, and being good at.

This blog will be the place where I jot my thoughts, post up work and whatever else I feel like from now until, well, whenever I feel like not jotting. At the moment I’m temping (to pay off a few debs I seem to have accidentally accumulated) until September when I begin my graphic communication course at Hastings College.
